Bioplex Technologies Inc awarded Phase 0 SBIR for dengue fever vector research proposal

October 15, 2010 - Bioplex Technologies, Inc. has been awarded a Phase 0 SBIR Grant from Enterprise Florida to assist in the preparation of a Phase 1 SBIR proposal to the U.S. Army. The Phase 0 SBIR program provides small businesses up to $3000 to be used toward the preparation and submittal of a Phase 1 SBIR proposal to a Federal Agency.  During the application process, Phase 0 proposals are evaluated by a panel of experts with regard to technical innovation and suitability of the project to the solicitation.

Bioplex's proposal involves pairing its patented SE300 Portable Bioreaction Monitoring System with a serotype specific Dengue Fever assay under development at Advanced BioScience Laboratories Inc. Once fully developed, the product and process will be suitable for field testing of the Dengue Fever vector (mosquitoes). Over 100 million people worldwide are infected with Dengue each year and in recent years the disease has spread to Florida and Puerto Rico in the US. The resulting product could be also used for diagnosis of Dengue in humans from remote and low infrastructure communities.
