PORIFERA: AUTOMATED FIELD SAMPLING AND SAMPLE PREPARATION

 

The Porifera - Robotic Environmental Monitoring Sentry (R.E.M.S.) automates sample capture and preparation in the field, allowing for extended period monitoring of environmental waters, water treatment processes and industrial processes. Traditional sampling methods rely on collection and transfer of unprocessed samples and large volumes to the laboratory for preparation and analysis. During times of critical need, laboratory backlog can result in long lead times for analytical results that can’t wait. Remotely adaptable to different flows, elution chemistries, and solid phase extractions the Porifera performs the duties of a sampler and sample prep lab technician - in the field and automatically - reducing precious time before transfer to your trusted lab analytical systems and therefore your lead time to results.

 

Samples can be captured, prepared, preserved and archived for analysis in the lab by mass spectrometry, microscopy, spectroscopy, genetic testing or other analytical methods. The fully remote programmable Porifera is ideal for sampling areas of concern for chemicals, biologicals (microbes, larvae) and particulate matter over extended time periods. Alternatively, samples can be introduced directly into the Manta Environmental Mass Spectrometer for on-site, real time chemical analysis.

MANTA: ENVIRONMENTAL MASS SPECTROMETER

 

Long considered the premiere chemical analysis tool, the ion trap mass spectrometer provides on-site, real time identification and quantification of chemicals. The VODA MANTA provides the highest level of performance in a compact, easy-to-use field mobile mass spectrometer system developed for use in or near bodies of water. It can be configured for simple operations or configured to utilize additional problem solving features of advanced analytical instrumentation.

 

Deployed alone or paired with the Voda Porifera (Precision Field Sampler), the MANTA may be used as a process analytical tool for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi volatiles, toxins, pollutants, biologicals, pharmaceuticals /PCPs (emerging contaminants) or metals in air or water.

 

If you are concerned about potentially harmful chemicals in your water supply, the mass spectrometer is the ideal instrument used for identifying which type as well as what quantity of chemicals are present. Mass spectrometry is a proven analytical technique that identifies molecules present in solids, liquids and gasses. For example in sampling liquid or gas, it determines which atoms comprise the molecules, how the atoms are arranged and the quantity of each type of molecule. From this information, the amount and type of chemical contaminants in water can be identified and quantified in real time.

 

Traditional sample-transport-test methods for environmental water quality monitoring can be inaccurate due to constant water flow. The MANTA provides continuous monitoring of groundwater, streams, lakes and other bodies of water and can immediately alert regulators of the presence of chemical contaminants. The time of presence can then be linked to industrial discharge or other forms of contamination.
